We join our Muslim brothers and sisters in their observance of Ramadan.
Ramadan is an opportune time for us, Christians and Muslims, to forge unity amidst religious and political differences. It’s also a relevant occasion to unite with the Muslim community in their search for geniune and lasting peace. It’s the right time to be with the Muslims in their pursuits and endeavours.
Here in the Philippines, Muslims encountered and are still encountering varied criticisms, discrimination and other types of malicious attack that undermine their rights as human being. They have been associated with terrorism. They have been linked to crimes. And worse, they have been subjects of harsh environment. And many untold stories.
Today, we join them because like us, they are brothers and sisters – they are also sons and daughters created by the Supreme Being. Like us Christians, they have equal rights.
This Ramadan, we earnestly hope that peace and prosperity will reach the Promised Land…that development would not be elusive anymore for our fellow Filipinos in Mindanao.
This Ramadan, and in the coming more days, months and years, we are ONE with the Muslims and with the Muslim community in our dream for a better country.
