CHED proposal is no solution

Posted by: joselito capariño on: January 27, 2009

Adding another year to colleges courses? How had the Commission on Higher education (CHED) come up with such proposal?

It is totally skewed.

When will our educational institutions, our government, learn that the problem of the education sector in the country requires basic approach. That improving the quality of education needs going back to basics.

The proposal of CHED to add another year for college courses is not the solution. In my humble opinion, it will only  result into additional burden on the students and parents – both financial and physical burden. It will only give ample opportunities for colleges and universities, especially private schools, to earn and exploit the students.

Why not going back to basics?

Let’s focus on basic education. There’s a dire need for reforms on the basic education. The need for additional schools and school rooms, more instructional materials, trainings for teachers, and the like. By going back to the needs of the primary and secondary education can only then that quality education be achieved in the long run.

hahaha.. What a stupid argument.

Obviously, you have not learned anything from both your elementary and secondary teachers. What have you been eating lately?

I mean, common man!!

Haven’t you read the whole story? It’s for us to conform with the international standards. And, it states: education should be at least 15 years.

In terms of the “financial burden” that you were saying, it is actually much cheaper for the parents and students if they take the 5-year program.

Instead of compressing 24 units in one Sem, the new curriculum would allow students around 18 units giving them more time on other things.

According to a study conducted by the government agencies, it is actually the pressure and stress from long hours of studies that cause the students to fail.

Also, students, instead of taking summer classes, can enjoy their time. That’s the beauty of spreading the load.

The only thing that’s negative (if you would consider it negative) about the program is time. Yes, you have to study for the additional year.

But here is the catch. The last year of the curriculum involves review of the whole course. Meaning, you dont have to enroll to expensive review centers, which in turn saves you money.

I hope that this enlightens you… and please, read the whole article first before making any comments. The only side you know is your side.
